His Feet
Dad’s feet are very swollen, making them feel hard and the skin tight, while his calves are softer and more pliable. The orthopedic surgeon doesn’t want to operate under those conditions unless necessary. It’s not a life-saving surgery, it would be more of an elective surgery at this point. They have him on a blood thinner and want to get him out of bed to prevent clots while they wait for the swelling to go down. They did a Doppler scan of his feet and his circulation is fine.
On Monday they’ll do surgery to put pins in his ankles and feet from the outside. He’ll be under anesthesia for that. Once the swelling goes down they can work on some of the more complicated issues in his feet and lower legs like getting the tibea set straight. That could be 1-3 weeks from now depending on how long he is swollen.
Once he is able to sit up with a back brace on he can eat. For now he can drink water. Sitting up with a brace seems to be up to Dad. They came to fit the brace this morning but it required rolling him, and due to the pain he is in he refused.
If we have any questions the staff can’t answer, the orthopedic surgeon said we can Facebook message him. We’re very appreciative of that availability.
Prayer items
Drinking water makes Dad need to burp and he can’t figure out how to get it out without causing pain. Pray for a solution to that.
Pray for him to feel up to sitting up. He needs to become somewhat mobile to promote healing and to be able to eat.
Pray against infection and blood clots.
Pray for his relationship with the staff. Dad likes to think rules don’t apply to him, and he can be petty gruff in his expression of his opinions, to say the least ☺️ Pray he can testify of God’s character, His mercy, kindness, and healing power while he’s here.
Thanks everyone for your support and prayers!
