Firsts
After 9 weeks of being mostly incapacitated, a few firsts have recently occurred:
Last week, Dad touched one of his feet with his hands for the first time in about eight weeks. Can you imagine? Many people don't like feet, and I would guess a lot of people don't touch even their own feet much more often than to bathe and clothe them. But can you imagine not being able to do such a familiar action as bending far enough to touch a part of your body that you most likely take for granted right now? It was such a small moment, but it stopped me in my proverbial tracks.
This past weekend, Dad completed his PT for his left leg and both arms independently for the first time. He still needs help with his exercises for his right leg since he still can't lift that leg himself, but this was still a big milestone. He sent something like eight videos to our family What's App chat to show us all his hard work.
He rolled himself onto his side without assistance for the first time this weekend as well, and the family What's App got photographic evidence for that one, too! I laughed hard at my sister's response to his selfie with his eyes closed due to the flash: "Are you pretend sleeping in this picture?" It definitely looked like it :-D
The fact that my dad has taken selfies and sent videos of himself to the family in and of itself is a big change compared to a few months ago. He has also become a baseball fan, and it turns out it's not even the medication. Who is this guy?!
